Statement of goals

Writing an essay requires various skills. As a writer, i believe that i have very good skills at vocabulary, syntax, and grammar. I consider that my texts are cohesive and well organized in paragraphs by having an introduction, several paragraphs in the main body, and a conclusion. I believe that in my essays, i can get my point through and build an argument very satisfactory by keeping the interest of the readers at the same time. I also regard myself as good at coming up with original phrases.
Even though i stated in the previous paragraph that i am very good at several aspects as a writer, i occasionally find myself having problems in putting down the proper word or even finding the word that i need. In comments that i had about my essays from instructors or from friends, they said that i sometimes get out of track or over explain a point. I also consider that my essay planning is not very good. When i am about to write an essay, i think about a few points and then start writing. I do not form a plan beforehand of what to write in each paragraph. I just start writing an essay having some points that i want to write about in mind, and think of other points while writing the essay. I always find my self having difficulties with referencing and in-text citation. I spend a relatively great amount of time to do referencing and in-text citation because i get the information i need from relevant books or look it up in the internet. At the end of the day i am not a hundred per cent sure if i did it correctly. Revising is not something that i always do. Most of the times, when i write an essay, i do not revise it either because i feel that it needs no correction, or because i do not feel like making a revision of it.
Throughout the course, i would like to improve my skills as a writer. I believe that i can achieve that through the feedback that i will get from my classmates and my instructor. If the feedback that i will get from them keeps stating over and over again that i need to improve the same things, then it will mean that i made no effort to improve them. But if their feedback won't focus on the same things all the time, then that will mean that i am getting better.
